Afghanistan's warlords

Patrick Cockburn has a good article that describes the power of the warlords in Afghanistan and how they have dominated the political landscape since at least the 1990s (in addition to the Taliban). They are still in power today because the US showered them with money in the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan. Today they run the country like a mafia.
