Pakistan supporting Taliban insurgency

The NYT reports that some elements of Pakistan's ISI (intelligence services) are supporting the Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan. The Taliban was partly created by the ISI in the 1990s to assert influence in Afghanistan and today is also being supported to ensure Pakistan will fill the power vacuum in Afghanistan once the US/NATO leave and prevent rival India from filling this vacuum with its own allies.
The article is based on both American and Pakistani sources. American officials said that the ISI's S Wing provided direct support to three major groups carrying out attacks in Afghanistan: the Taliban based in Quetta, Pakistan, commanded by Mullah Muhammad Omar; the militant network run by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar; and a different group run by the guerrilla leader Jalaluddin Haqqani.
